If you want to hear about real weight loss, then the Miata is it! The 2016 comes in at only 4 pounds heavier than the 2nd generation version. That's with all the included safety junk! It weighs about 2400 lbs!
The Miata comes with a 2.0L Skyactiv engine pushing 155hp@6000rpm and 148lb-ft@4600rpm. Perfect 50/50 balance as usual and with the Club edition you can opt for the Brembo/BBS package which includes Brembo brakes and forged 17" wheels along with an aero kit.

The new MX-5 is beautiful! Go for it. Pay no attention to the ignorant stereotypes. The Miata has so much racing heritage plus it's clearly the class SCCA leader for many many years now.... it's a fine sports car on & off the track. Spec Miata also rules the road courses in terms of racing enthusiasts and outright numbers. The newest gen takes balance, perfect weight distribution, and handling to another level... although even the older chassis can still perform well. Can't go wrong with that recipe. It's not always about brute power.
Here's a friend and I on the track having some fun.... of course he lets me pass by.
