I'm extremely surprised to hear that, you were probably dealing with an idiot. Their gold pads come with lifetime warranty and you can return them after getting them down to metal-to-metal and they will exchange them free of charge, no questions asked.
I'm assuming you got the cheapest pads they offer and talked to a new guy who didn't want to get taken advantage of.
Autozone has done nothing but great business with me, and being that I work at a shop they're especially generous with warranty, labor claims, etc. They're big enough to eat up a ton of stuff the same way Walmart does when they find a broken dipstick or lug nut (although more than half of Walmart's claims are actually their fault anyways)
Honestly not surprised at all that Autozone would cover this. If they'd stop selling everything under a "Duralast" name then I'd be able to sell a lot more of their parts, that's their only issue.
