I'm astounded. I agree that AutoZone should not be liable, and maybe in a legal fight, they would win. However, in the interest of customer satisfaction (and maybe the resulting good publicity!), or, just to avoid a fight, they are going to cut John a check.

Well, I guess the biggest lesson here is that it never hurts to ask. Good for him.
