Exactly. Even on a 4 lane highway, every lane has a specific role. The far right lane is for merging on and off, so you should only be there if you're doing that because there will be a lot of slow moving traffic merging into you otherwise. The next lane over is for truckers, and that should just be passed through by cars because semis need all the space they can get. Cars just shouldn't mingle between them. The next lane to the left of that is for cars cruising. Simple - get there, and go at the speed you'd like. If drivers behind you want to go faster, they can go to the next lane to pass. If you want to pass another car, the left lane should be open for you to pass as well. They you just get back over to the right. Pass with authority (you know, actually accelerate past them) and get it over with. I don't see how this system is too complicated to understand.
