A 1996 GT was a complete dog vs the Z28 counterpart. It was even worse in 1998. People really didn't care about performance at that time it seems. I got my 01 Z28 brand new for only a couple thousand more than a GT that I test drove down the street so I don't think it was a price thing. Just goes to show people will value car looks above all else.

What you are looking at there is the death of the Camaro.
In the end of the 4th generation Camaro the V8s still sold pretty well. The V6 coupes on the other did not. That basically became a pretty crappy car.
That is why I've been such a big proponent of the Gen6 being a great car first. If the Camaro can't sell a huge number of L4 and V6 coupes the V8 will have a short life span. Something about those that forget history......
