That officer is going to be pissed he didn't catch the guy, and he got away, I think honestly if he was dirty he could easily just say thanks and ditch the evidence so he can get the conviction. It's going to look bad on him for getting the wrong car, and they might not even drop the charges.
Honestly, if you care enough, and assuming they charged him with felony he should either have a lawyer or be assigned a public defendent, either of which should be public record. I'm not sure how long it would take for them to assign one though.
