Nice cars, OP.

This thread is a great example of why brilliant young investors like Joshua Kennon recommend people don't tell anyone about their finances. He tells tale after tale of regular old 40-somethings who have easily amassed 7 and 8 figure portfolios just making regular investments representing 20-25% of their income, dollar-cost averaging into great equities over time. They live in normal houses. Hell, most of the wealth sits in non-taxable retirement accounts so they can't touch it ANYWAY! Their neighbors are unaware. Their kids are unaware. Their parents, brothers, sisters...all unaware of this great wealth.

And they SHOULD BE, because if there has been one thing history has taught us it's that your own mother would stab you in the back if the jealousy bug bites her hard enough. There is no quicker way to alienate yourself from family and friends than to make wise investments, work hard, get successful and then spread the word.

This thread has quite the collection of people that lack drive and ambition and take pleasure in cutting down others who have worked much harder and took the time to educate themselves into making good decisions. For shame. The OP should've said mom and dad bought them. That's less infuriating to the status quo than a young person that worked hard and made the right decisions early and beat them to the punch. Work doesn't stop at 4:00PM, folks. The most important work of all is what you do with your income, not how long or how hard you think you work for it.
