"Scat" is a verb in its usual primary definition, meaning "to depart in haste". The meaning of 'excrement' is only about 90 years old.
The word also describes a type of singing. Also can mean heroin or whiskey.
The Dodge "Scat Pack" was also probably a play on the "Rat Pack".
So now you know why.
