When did you experience your first auto experience as a car nut.

For me, age 3-4 (born in 1951), memories a little sketchy. First memory was about age 3 -4 (about 1954-55). I was in the back seat of a family Chrysler at a stop light, Mom driving. A motorcycle hit in the intersection, landed on our auto smashing windshield. Remember Mom saying to me close my eyes. Still remember the blood on the windshield.

Looking back assume the Chrysler totaled. 1954-55, family went car shopping in our second auto, a 1951 Studebaker and remember the dealership like it was yesterday. Dad bought a new 1955 98 Olds two-door hardtop, fully optioned, turquoise and white. Remember like it was yesterday, as Dad drove away from the dealership I was bouncing on the rear seat, I want the turquoise and white! He turned around and bought the 1955 98 Holiday two door.

At this young age of 4 I was not finished. Remember like yesterday, I spied a 1955 Olds 98 Starfire conv. Brat that I was, Dad returned to the dealership a few weeks later an purchased the conv. for Mom. Soo 1950s, we now had matching his & hers 1955 Olds 98 hardtop and convertible with identical colors.

So what was your first experience that indicated you had a passion for anything automotive.
Sometime in 1969, my dad took me to Luby Chevrolet on Monument Street in Baltimore City to buy a new family car. He had a '63 Chevy Bel Air two door sedan to trade in. Since they did not have an Impala on the lot equipped the way he wanted it, he had to order it.

While he was processing his order, I walked around the showroom and was enamored with a Lemans Blue 1969 Chevelle SS 396 sitting on the floor. Kept telling my dad to buy it, but he wouldn't, as it was too small and only had two doors. I begged and pleaded, but we left without it.

Several months later, our new car came in, and we returned to Luby Chevrolet. He ordered a 1969 Impala four door sport sedan (no post between the side windows) with a 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, no power options, no AC, and only an AM radio. Talk about a strippo! At least it was Lemans Blue. When I became "driving age", I did learn to drive that car. Sure was a handful!

I'm sure the car is long gone, but the building is still there. It's a mattress store and a service garage.

I got to ride in a lot of neat cars during the sixties. Olds Vista Cruisers ect....

I love these old car photos!

We hit the 90's today, and it appears the 90's will be in our weather forecast for the foreseeable future. With our single digit humidity, I don't mind.
