Uh ... this isn't the first 400+ hp TTV6 in the world. Its not even the first such engine from GM. Getting power comparable to the next 'engine class' (I3 to I4, I4 to V6, V6 to V8, V8 to V10/V12) is kinda what automakers use forced induction for.
What I'd be interested in seeing is how it compares to the L99 in terms of weight, cost, and fuel economy. Cranking the boost up that high would have to have some impact on the efficiency of the engine, but on the other hand its going to have AFM & Stop/Start which should give it a fairly healthy improvement in fuel economy over other turbo6s. I believe the LF3 (the 420 hp twin turbo V6) comes in at 485 lbs, and that doesn't have any S/S hardware (like a beefed up battery & alternator system) or AFM bits. Wouldn't be surprised if it crests 500 lbs for a 'small' 3.0L engine, while the L99 at more than twice the displacement is 450ish. And cost ... no clue what the 3.0L with just about every piece of modern engine technology would cost, but the chances of it being less than an L99 are slim to nil.
But it is an interesting engineering exercise. 6 cylinder engines with cylinder deactivation are rare, and I think this is the first time that an automaker has used forced induction on such a 6 cylinder, almost certainly the first time anyone has tried it at such high boost levels.
