Car companies are, and the build cars and sell them to dealers. The dealers then charge what they feel is market value for a particular vehicle. If a dealer choices to put a dealer markup on a car, it on them not the manufacturer. In the end, the buyer has all the power, as you do not have to pay any more than you are willing to. Unfortunately, too many people buy on emotion rather than using financial sense. Dealers know and count on this!
