You guys are all missing the point.
We here are a very, very, very small portion of GM customers. What do we have? 40,000 member of this site. Compare that to the 500,000 Camaros sold and then to the millions of cars and trucks GM sells each and every year.
The customers have spoken and they have said, "no, your 100,000 mile warranty does not impact my decision to buy your new vehicle".
Does that mean no one cares? Of course not. I would prefer a b2b warranty that covers everything as long as I choose to own the vehicle. Is GM foolish for not offering that? No, of course not.
Yes, if you buy any product a longer warranty is certainly better. But when making a decision the key is "is your warranty the same as others I am considering?". In this case, yes.
What none of us see is the big picture behind the curtain. A 100,000 mile warranty costs GM MORE $$$ than their key competitors, Honda, Toyota and Ford. And offering more mileage was not getting GM any more sales or profits compared to those competitors.
The customers have spoken and this is a non-issue. The problem is that general problem where "we" assume that we represent all the other customers. So I agree, for some this matters. There just aren't enough of you buying GM cars and trucks because of the 100,000 mile warranty to change the data.
