Inaccurate Oil Dipstick Readings
I'm 70 years old and have been checking oil dipsticks longer than many of you have been alive. If someone were to tell me the following, I would not believe it. However, it is true.
The portion of the oil dipstick that shows the quantity of oil is flat on both sides. You would think the readings on both sides would be the same. However they are not. At least not in my car. It doesn't matter if I check the oil when it's warm, cold, after leaving the oil sit for 10 minutes or overnight. Whenever the oil is checked, the reading on one side of the dipstick is about a half quart different than the reading on the opposite side of the dipstick.
My 2015 C7 has the standard 6.2 L engine and it is now at the dealer's for service. I mentioned this odd dipstick reading to the special Corvette mechanic, and he did not believe it. We went to my car and I showed him how I checked the oil, and he checks it the same way. How many ways can you check it? We both came up with the identical same reading. One side of the dipstick shows a certain quantity of oil in the engine, and the other side of the dipstick shows a difference of about 1/2 quart. This mechanic has no explanation, and neither do I. Neither of us have any idea which side of the oil dipstick is giving an accurate reading.
So, the reason I'm posting this is to see if I am the only one that has this peculiar oil dipstick reading. If there are others, what have you done to correct the problem?
