I don't know why this is so amusing to people. There is a reason: To keep hostages alive longer when they are in the trunk. A live hostage is worth way more than one who, oops, died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
So, geez, give the poor Honda- driving Mafioso a break... he's just trying to make a living.
