The big thing that I see here is people underestimate others. Most shootings are from people who do not understand firearms as much as military/law enforcement but the day might come where it is an ex-military/leo that starts shooting who can be better trained with his firearm than you. And in that split second that you have to rack the slide back it could all be over.

In conclusion, I always have a round in the chamber. Trust in the gun, trust in your holster, and trust in yourself. And practice (shooting, drawing, putting back into your holster.)
This. So very much this. If you're not 100% confident in your equipment or yourself, DO NOT CARRY. It's that simple.
