I'm not going to start a new thread about this latest article since this was after all posted by the TMZ of car media... yeah the same as the ones who claimed the NBR time for the GT350... so whether factual or fallacy here it goes:

"Heat Soak? Horsepower-limiting ECU? Undersized roots blower?

Who’s laughing now?

According to fresh reports, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has run a lap time of 6:59.13 at Nurburgring, and the HD on-board video will be released “soon”.

What do we know about this run? It was done in a production 2015 C7 Z06, and the car was equipped with the Z07 aerodynamics package, along with GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed transmission. That is all the information we have at this point, but we do expect more (official) information to be released in coming weeks.

As you know, the C7 Z06 has been heavily criticized as of late, with rumors circulating that the car suffers from heat stroke, or a poorly programmed factory ECU, etc. There are also numerous videos appearing on the internet of the new Z getting beat by the likes of the SRT Viper – the C7 Z06’s primary competitor.

This recent news, however, will redeem this amazing machine in the eyes of enthusiasts, and will solidify this car as an amazing machine that displays hypercar performance.

This lap time places the new 2015 Corvette Z06 in a new category altogether, and could be compared (statistically) to the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 – all for a fraction of the price. For reference, the Porsche 918 Spyder has previously recorded a 6:57 lap time, so this new Z06 is certainly in elite and exclusive company."
