I don't think this will happen in a couple of years. In a decade it might be possible. Despite the use of the ecoboost engine in Ford's trucks, I still see the trucks as having a hard time doing any serious hauling and towing work without the torque capabilities of the v8.

Aside from this, even with the power capabilities from turbocharging and supercharging, its my opinion that the appeal of cars such as the Camaro SS, the Corvette and a high performance Mustang will be seriously compromised with the absence of the v8. I'll go further in saying that the Corvette and Camaro SS could be forced into retirement with the demise of the v8.

I realize that the phasing out of the v8 will be eminent (in a time period of decades as opposed to a couple of years). It will be a sad day IMO for muscle car fans when that day comes.
