vehicle has a different "break in" oil from the factory, they specifically say not to over rev with this oil, it will foam and lose lubrication properties. Wonder if he had his oil changed yet. there is a bulletin about this that comes with the car. So I will assume that there may be a few main bearing failures with people beating on them from the get go.
