Heat soak and overheating are two different things, and conflating the two leads to lots of confusion -- especially the way things spread across the interwebs.

Yes, for someone like Randy Probst to lose 0.5 secs across three laps is a big deal, and hopefully they don't have that issue in the C7Z.R, but for most of the people that will buy and do track days with these cars the 0.5 sec. variance in three laps will be nothing compared to the variance in laps because of their lesser skills. Given several of these cars have been on the dyno (where heat soak tends to be more of an issue) and people aren't reporting unusual IAT increases, heat soak doesn't appear to be much of an issue.

The high oil temperature could be a problem. As far as I know this is the only automatic that has been put in the hands of someone besides a GM employee for this kind of testing. It may be a fluke or it may be a design issue.

The apparent valve train failure on one may also be a problem or a fluke. The loss of power demonstrated in the video with the Viper T/A may also indicate a problem or a fluke. At this point we just don't have many data points to develop a clear picture with, but we can make sure we aren't conflating issues and leading to confusion...unless we really want to damage the rep of the car that is.
