Dude, they changed the rules, sort of like pulling the rug out from under you and you are not alone. The banks are scared right now, money is tight right down to the consumer level, and many non-banks that are lending are really ripping people off that have less that stellar financial backing, back to the old days of only lending to people that don't need a loan, not to imply your credit is not good, they don't care right now.
I have a friend at work with a 710 credit score, no substantial debt but some debt, that was recently shot down on a car loan, he was livid, it was from a bank he had been banking with for 15 years, he closed his account he was so mad.
That was not dumb on your part, in any other time I doubt they would have even blinked, actually it was dumb on their part, you strike me as the type of person that honors their commitments no matter what it takes, and while I have not known you long, that fact that you sought out someone to step in so things came out right for the dealer made that pretty clear to me, especially as clear as it is how much you hated to have to do that by your sig.
