I spend 20% of my job just debating with our bean counters over things like, when I can recognize the revenue, amoritazion theshholds, forecast reports, drives me nuts some times...
I get our contracts people to draft a contract that says, on day X the new client starts to pay no matter if they are in production or not, then legal reviews and approves, our sales guys get the client to agree, their legal agrees, everyone signs, day X comes and the bean counters in AP bill them, the client pays, AR takes and books the money, and the bean counter tells me I can't recognize the revenue until they go in to production.
One year I bought them all x10 reading glasses as a joke, I said since you never seem to be able to recognize money when it is piled in front of you I think this might help, they were not amused.
