You're not stupid. It's got sentimental value. I personally would take parts from your older model and put them on the newer model in case you have to sell for any reason, it's a newer car in general (and apparantly in better condition).

This is 6 to one/half dozen to the other. Did the stepmom insult you directly or talk to someone who told this to you? If she didn't tell you directly or mean for you to hear it, you don't have any real right to jump in on her conversation. Your opinion obviously doesn't hold any weight with her or she would have told you. If she did, you have every right to get in her face about it, not that it will do anything though. I can't really say what I would do because I don't know the answer to the question I asked at the beginning of this answer. If she was ranting to a friend of hers or someone you know, I would pass it off and just ignore her. She has the qualities (from what you've said) of a snob/yuppie/arrogant/conceited/insert adjective here and probably won't have any impact on your life other than an annoyance. Just stay away from her as best you can.

-10 for using dramaspace. That's just going to bring more drama.
