The thing you have to remember is that the CAFE standards are an average mpg for a company's entire lineup. The way car companies are going to get around this is to work towards higher fuel efficiency on its compact cars and family sedans and add more hybrids while keeping a "gas-guzzling" sports car or two like the Camaro. It's all about the average, not the individual vehicle. Besides, there will continue to be advances in technology that will allow cars to get better fuel efficiency on high-powered engines. I mean, ten years ago, would you have thought that you could have a 400+ hp engine that gets 24mpg? I don't think there is anything to worry about. There are always loopholes and there will always be demand in America for muscle under the hoods of our vehicles.
