Very interesting. At first I was thinking it couldn't be
that quick, but then realized that the previous ZR1 was almost there. Plus, those seem like very likely performance targets (sub 3 second 0-60, 1/4 in the tens)

I'd put money against it.
High performance variants are rarely introduced in the 1st model year (see C6 & C6 Z06, 5th Gen Camaro & ZL1, 2nd gen CTS & CTS-V, C7 & C7 Z06). GM almost always bring them out a year or two later to try and keep the buzz going.
