GM designed the Alpha to accommodate the ATS, CTS and gen 6 Camaro with weight reduction a primary goal. I'd expect it can accommodate a V8 and the weight increase we'll see over the ATS will be from the drivetrain itself, not scabbing on reinforcements "to accommodate" it.
