Why so many "haters"?
I don't think that true communication over the internet is easily practiced. Things like tone of voice and body language are all but totally MIA. Smileys are a weak substitute. Now consider the age groups for which anything much longer than a 140 character tweet is considered a lengthy reply. My thoughts are that too much is left to interpretation on the reading end.
The youth and inexperience of the teens isn't helping. I did just find a thread about the 18 y/o newbie member (August 26, 2014 join date) who was given a V6 Camaro. IIRC, he could have anything under $26k . . . and he got a bit whiny here about his real friends' comments. The better part of the wisdom that wasn't present would probably have been to just let the whole matter drop before ever touching any electronic communications device..
It's going to be hard for people not privy to a socioeconomic level that allows for such gifts to not see at least a hint of boasting in the background. I'm not saying it's proper to always make that assumption, just that it happens.
Age. I'm guessing that the general forums' demographic is quite a few years younger than that of this particular thread. Maybe a whole generation or more. Is what we interpret as being harsh beyond all reason viewed differently or similarly by the teens, 20-somethings, and the younger 30-somethings? I honestly don't know, can't step that far outside myself.
The timing of this is truly unique for me. We just turned one of our cars over to the 17 y/o granddaughter. Signed over the title at the DMV this morning.
