Over the course of the last few months, I've seen some really lonely roads (which are awesome).
I stayed on main highways (40 & 70) for most of the eastern side of the trip both ways. I find the lonely roads of the west to be much more enjoyable...I like real mountains, I suppose.
I went from Durham, NC to Topeka, KS. Then to Vernal, UT on day 2. Anacortes, WA on day 3. That day, I came back through Pullman, WA, Spokane, WA and along Route 20 which is a favorite highway of mine. Did mostly 6am to midnight runs for those.
I stayed out in Washington until Monday, and took my time heading down Pacific Coast Highway. I left Santa Cruz, and came back via Sonora Pass, then made my way to Route 50, though eventually I got on to 70 at night which took me in to Boulder. From Boulder, I took 50 quite a long ways until I again got on 70, then 40 taking me home.
