I really hope they are planning something similar with the Hellcat but recent history is telling me not to hold my breath.

Hell Mopar has been teasing the Viper guys with a new performance ecu for a few months now and still no word (and they wonder why they cant sell the damn car)

Exactly it's all variable at this point as to if the ECM will be setup with a new encryption, so let's not speculate on to whether or not the Hellcat can be tuned..

Understandable
However, the ZL1 came out when? 2011? It is 3 years later (4 model years) and just now Dodge is finally stepping up to the world of supercharged V8 muscle cars.

Around the same time as the 662 GT500, and we've been playing catch up ever since..

I mean Ford did this back in 2003 with their Mustang when the Camaro died.

Factories will keep 1 upping each other to generate sales. In 2016 the Camaro will most likely be lighter with an LT engine making 460hp (at least). Probably not far from a 2017 Z Camaro with the LT4 etc.

That is 2 model years after the Hellcat.

Don't forget Ford is testing a GT350 now that could very well run faster laps than the Z/28

Unless you have the means to keep buying the latest and greatest car - you will be forced to improve the performance of your car to keep pace.
The bitching about GM being "3rd place" is silly. It is a 580hp car from the factory that runs 12 flat stock and a few tweaks from being in the 10s and being a daily driver at that!!!!!

Here is some food for thought.. The iconic muscle cars of yester-year are highly sought after nowadays, and out of those cars which ones bring in the highest dollar amount the highly modded pro touring cars or the bone stock numbers matching all the way down to the bias ply polyglass tire cars? A good example is the '70 Chevelle Ls6 it's a highly sought after car now and you can attribute that to it having the highest HP rating in it's time.

This is why i think the bench racing over magazine times is just plain silly. If they concern you that much then i dont know what to say - buy a Hellcat and wait for the gen 6 camaro zl1 to come out
It may be silly or stupid to you, but I for one want to see Chevrolet on top of the game and not always resorting to ring times and road courses it makes us look silly as 99.9% here will never run a ZL1,Z/28 on the Nürburgring...
