If left on for a very long time, I suspect the adhesive or plastic film will break down to a point that removal will be virtually impossible. I buddy of mine missed a piece of similar film on a refrigerator shelf. After a couple of years the film just crumbles where it comes off at all. The adhesive looks as if it has crystalized and is impossible to remove without solvent. I just keep a nice microfiber cloth in the console and periodically wipe off the screen.
