The car in the movie came with an automatic transmission and if it has the '6.6 litre' sticker on it (which I never paid attention to), then it had the standard code L78 Pontiac 400 engine rated at 180 HP and 325 lb/ft of torque.
In 1977, California had the option to come with the Oldsmobile 403 V8 which probably wasn't in the movie car, even though the shaker sticker for it was also "6.6 Litre". The desirable powertrain is the code W72 Pontiac 400 rated at a bit more horsepower (220) but a tiny bit less torque (320) mated with the 4-speed manual tranny, which the movie didn't have. The only immediate sign of a W72 engine other than the buildsheet or trim tag were chrome valve colors and the sticker on the shaker saying "T/A 6.6" instead "6.6 Litre."
Ergo, the movie car probably had the standard code L78 Pontiac 400.
... ... God, I miss Trans Ams. :\
