Yeah, the reason the butterfly valves are there is for noise regulations. They are open under WOT, above about 3.5k RPM and at idle anyway but close between 1k and 3.5k which is just cruising speed. One thing you well notice is that the outside tips get really black really quick. This is because all the carbon is going out the path of least resistance, which is now the outside tips.
