But, look up SCCA Solo2 racing in your area. Give it a try. You need a helmet, and for the stock classes, no modifications are permitted except tires. Top speeds are capped by the course design to about 65mph.
It is 60 seconds of shear violence. No kidding. You have to remember to breath. Our area is 4 laps per event, and $30 to enter. That is 240 seconds of hard driving. If you are running 12 second ET's, that's 20 passes worth.

I'm well beyond the no modifications stage

and Autocross has never appealed to me. I would no doubt have a blast on a road course , but it is cost prohibitive which is unfortunate.
