I carry iwb at about 4 or 4:30, even with the seat belt on just lean forward for access. Still quicker than the console or glove box, maybe not as comfortable though. Especially a 1911, but I figure you got to have enough firepower to handle most situations.
There are a number of holster choices, some that drive a lot have gone with a cross draw holster. A quick access holster mounted in the car is good, but you are always fiddling with the firearm getting in and out. I subscribe to the belief that you should never leave a firearm unattended in the car, so you are always moving/fiddling with it.
