The 1LE should have gotten the Grand Sport version of the LS3 but it didn't. Why? Because GM isn't going to build the best Camaro possible. They are going to build the best Camaro they can without encroaching on the Corvette.

Perhaps a better argument would be that GM did just enough to one up the 2011/12 GT500 when they designed the ZL1. Ford countered immediately as it appears they will the Hellcat. Keep in mind that the ZL1 was in development in 2009 and 580 HP was tall numbers
Putting the dry sump LS3 into the 1LE would have required quite a bit of engineering. It's improvements, as with all past 1LE, were suspension related
