I would agree with the money issue - student debt and a tough job market for the past 5 years have made it nearly impossible for many young people to buy and modify muscle cars. That said, I would not say they aren't interested - I am 25 with a camed v8 convertible (probably the smallest car market ever) and there are many people young and old that get excited to see it/ hear it.

Also, keep in mind that cars are a lot more complicated than they were in the 60s and that intimidates many people from even trying to learn about their car at all.
