Simple physics. You can not simply look at marketed horsepower when comparing cars. The M4 is putting
430hp/430lb-ft to the ground and weighs 3,581lbs. When we compare weight/whp ratio's for the two cars:
M4: 3,581/430 = 8.33lb/whp
Z/28 3,862/455 = 8.48lb/whp
Pretty darn close. The biggest difference is the torque curve between the two. The M4 puts down more peak torque (430lb-ft vs 420lb-ft) and more torque throughout the range (forced induction). The M4 in the Car&Driver comparison was also $80,325 as tested.
