There is one other way to tell when you go into V4, and just maybe this is what some of you are feeling or hearing, if you have your engine sound management set to off, it keep your exhaust valves open, however no matter what mode you are in (i.e. Sport or Track) when the stingray goes into V4 the exhaust valves will close, you can hear the valves close. Sounds kind of like a vacuum closing, the stingray goes quiet, tap the gas valves open and you’re back in V8 and the exhaust sound good again. GM defaulted to close the exhaust valves because they didn’t like the sound of the exhaust open in V4 mode. Also it will go into V4 whenever there is no load on the car no matter what drive mode you have selected. And of course if you’re in tour or a lesser aggressive setting with the engine sound management turned on the exhaust valves stay closed. You can rest assured that if you’re cruising on fairly level ground you’re in V4.
