Gears on a car, the lower the number, the higher the gear. So the 3.27 on the v6 is a high gear. Going to a lower gear increases the acceleration of the car. Think of a bicycle. If you go to a lower gear, you have to pedal faster to go the same distance. Difference being, with the v6 Camaro, the meat of the power is in the higher rpm range, so you want the car to "pedal" faster, or get it's rpm up faster.
