A Dodge Challenger “Hellcat” prototype with very minimal camouflage was spotted with a SRT Viper-like hood scoop. The latest prototype sports the same revised front and rear lighting treatment as the refreshed 2015 Dodge Challenger shown at the 2014 New York auto show earlier this month.

Last fall, a Challenger Hellcat prototype was spotted, reportedly with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood. While power numbers haven’t been disclosed, the supercharged mill is expected to make a Viper-like 640 hp, though rumors suggest the engine is capable of more power. Other rumors suggest that the Hellcat name won’t be used on the production version of the super Challenger. While the prototype features “392 Hemi” fender badges, bits of camo covering a small portion of the grille and center of the taillights suggest the automaker is concealing the high-performance model’s trim name.

With its newfound power, the Challenger Hellcat will be better able to compete with the 580-hp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8) and the 662-hp Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with its supercharged 5.8-liter V-8. As with the Viper, we expect the Challenger Hellcat’s hood scoop to be functional for a ram-air intake system and venting under-hood heat.
