the problem with the Viper is that when it came out in the early 90's it had brutal performance that hadn't been seen since the 1960s. These days all sports cars have 400-500 horsepower , but they have a lot more comfort and practicality. The fact that a new Corvette came out at the same time as the new Viper, but with the best interior ever and lots of sophistication hurt it even more.
