2014 Chevelle
If GM were going to design a new Chevelle, they'd start by choosing a platform appropriate for the job and look at what they could do with a car of that shape and size. Originally, Zeta was supposed to be a platform used for a variety of products, but now Alpha is taking on that role, so I'd begin with an Alpha vehicle on a large wheelbase and try to determine what I could do, keeping in mind aerodynamics in the design. I can't imagine another 5thgen-styled car coming out, so they'd probably drop much of the retro styling. The concepts I've seen mostly show how loved the classic Chevelle body is, but in today's safety and fuel economy environment, I'm not sure a vehicle that tried to do what the Challenger did would work for Chevrolet. I would look toward the modern Charger for more inspiration. The Charger is far from its classic design, but it reinvigorated a classic nameplate with muscle car proportions and appropriate compromises that would make it sell to people other than enthusiasts. They gave the enthusiasts performance trims. Similarly aggressive proportions and performance can be attained on Alpha if a future Chevelle were designed. I'm no photo editor, but I'd look closely at new Cadillac, not the 1969 model, for the angles and shapes of any future sport vehicles.
