Just because they use the same name over does not mean it has to look similar to the way it did before. Each generation of Chevelle/ Malibu had its own look. The last car to carry the Chevelle name was the 1977 and that nameplate was on a tiny badge on the right rear. At least it was on my 76.

I see what you mean.
I look at the newer Malibu like I look at the Dart. They needed a new FWD car and just used an established name to get it off the ground faster. The look of the Chevelle changed over time but it wasn't like the Camaro where they had nothing in common.
