The F1 engine is a V6 and will rev much higher with half the piston weight. But 400 from 1.5 isnt that impressive for a race engine.

A few of the turbo straight-4 engines used in F1 in the mid-late '80s made upwards of 500hp/L. The BMW m12/m13 in the 1986 Brabham cars made well over 1,000hp out of 1.5L. Of course these engines would never have lasted for LM.
