well I have just finished a trial with a spinal cord stimulator. They basically run leads up your spine connected to a pulse generator. the pulses make the pain signals feel like tingling (for me anyways). SCS worked great for me, masking over 50% on the pain caused by my nerve damage
Hopefully things are changing for the better.
