anyway, +1 on the VA thing. cops and laws are tough. it's not quite as bad here in the Fredericksburg area, but when I head into NOVA or south to Richmond I always watch my speed. there's so much money up in NOVA they can put a cop on every corner, and 1 every mile on the interstates.

oh, and you said multiple calibrations. why 2, and did they accomplish anything?
Well...

I wasn't double...that would have been 110 mph, I was 98 mph
&
It's not "I haven't had a ticket in awhile" it's "I've never had a ticket"

I also said I don't think my rates will go up, not that my current insurance company won't try to increase them or boot me. I have usaa now and they are certainly not the cheapest option as is, so if they increase my rates I will shop around, if they drop me I'll find a different insurance company. With just 1 ticket I won't fall into the "uninsurable" category.

Yes, I had two calibrations at shops and both notarized the findings. Both tests showed identical findings. At 98 mph my speedometer was off by more than 10 mph. The reason I had 2 done was because I was advised by a lawyer to have more than one done given it was off by so much.

I bought this car used, not sure if previous owner did something. At the time of the ticket I had driven the car less than 1000 miles which was mostly in traffic or side roads for short trips. I hadnt noticed the speedo was off

I've since had the speedo fixed.

Not sure if the speedo being off will help my case though

Also I found this about rates and tickets....I would bet my current rate is 25% higher than what I could shop around and find.

According to Insurance.com, insurance premium increases depend on the type of infraction you are written-up for. Which ones are responsible, on average, for raising your insurance rates the highest? Here are the top 10, according to Insurance.com:

1. Reckless driving (22 percent rate increase, on average)
2. DUI first offense (19 percent)
3. Driving without a license or permit (18 percent)
4. Careless driving (16 percent)
5. Speeding 30 mph over the limit (15 percent)
6. Failure to stop (15 percent)
7. Improper turn (14 percent)
8. Improper passing (14 percent)
9. Following too close/tailgating (13 percent)
10. Speeding 15 to 29 mph over limit (12 percent)
