pre/post workout high GI drinks are actually beneficial, the thing I don't like about Muscle Milk is all the added ingredients and the quality of the ingredients, the whey is not the best form of whey and much of the protein is not from whey, the ingredient list is huge, mostly useless and includes a good amount of saturated fat.
Pre workout I make my own, 2 scoops whey protein, 1 tsp dextrose and a handful of ice cubes. This provides an excellent fast digesting protein source. I drink half 15-20 min pre workout and sip the rest intra. My next meal is a high protein starchy carb meal. Other than these two meals all other meals are low GI.
As far as eggs go, the white is the protein, the yolk contains the fat and other nutrients, the thing is that from a nutritional stand point they are excellent. I always eat 5 whites and 1 whole egg. The breakdown is

21 g protein
2.1 g carbs
1.5 g sat fat
3 g monounsaturated fat
This is a very good protein source with a almost negligible amount of carbs, a good amount of healthy fat and minimal sat fat. It is also an excellent choice in a fat loss diet compared to eating 6 whole eggs which would break down to
450 cals
21 g protein
3.6 g carbs
9 g sat fat
18 g monounsaturated fat
The minimal amount of lactose in a good quality whey protein isolate usually has no effect on those who are lactose intolerant, perhaps if you are real sensitive to lactose you may get a good fart out of it at best/worst depending how you look at it LOL.
One of the best readily available whey protein powders IMO would be ON Gold Standard. Many others have useless ingredients in them.
The whey protein that is considered "the best" is Glanbia's CFM. It's sold by a few other companies such as LEF which is top quality. Protein factory also sells it but there have been some red flags as to PF's processing, packaging and distribution of their whey products.
