Question For Coast Guard Service Members Or Maritimers
Question for yall:
When you are in the Coast Guard, do you get certified and officially receive any of the following licenses, presumably as a Boatswain's Mate?
>Masters License (any tonnage).
>Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) License.
>Deck Mates License (Chief Mate, Second Mate and Third Mate) of greater than 200 gross tons.
>Deck mates License (Chief Mate, Second Mate and Third Mate) of 200 gross tons or less (Near Coastal and Offshore).
And I mean like actually get a license in hand that can transfer to the civilian world. Not just training that is the equivalent for military duty.
For people who work as a Captain on a small vessels for a living, did you obtain your OUPV through online courses/studying and then take the test? If so, what study guide, how much did you spend, and how was it?
Looking to obtain one of these licenses to further my career with the Government within DHS, and my urge to do military service still burns strong (wish I had just done it out of school as I had planned). So if I can get the license(s) I want and fulfill that duty to service, then that's two birds with one stone.
Thanks!
