During my working career I was lucky to get off either Christmas OR New Year's Day! I was a police officer so I got paid pretty good for working a holiday, but I've go to laugh at a company that shuts down completely for 2 weeks!!
Somebody in the know please enlighten me on the rationale behind this decision.

Union rules. Less work, more pay. It's the rule.
The time is used to send in the non-union maintenance and IT folks to update stuff.
