I put this more on marketing than anything else. Of course in the era of "downsizing" saying that the 2015 Mustang is "lighter" and "smaller" was the headline grabber. That made some people think this Mustang was going to be the size of the BRZ/FR-S.
Even the C7 Corvette gained weight, and that was after going to an all-aluminum frame, suspension components and carbon fiber pieces (hood and roof). Safety and amenities add up.
I would have been happy if they had said "the 2015 Mustang will weigh the same as the 2014 Mustang GT (3,618 lbs) while gaining IRS.
