To be fair, even then people might think it's something other than a mustang. Ultimately, my point is that you can show any number of people as many generations of mustang you want, and you'll still have people that think it's something else. The only people with which such a test should be conducted is a group of car enthusiasts. They will undoubtedly discern this new design as a Mustang. I'm sorry, but I don't feel it looks like any thing other than a mustang, for the most part anyway. Maybe if you're placed inside the cabin without badges on the steering wheel and without seeing the car prior you might think it's a Jaguar . The interior is very impressive.

You are correct (none of 'em are americans nor are that aware of american culture - I do a little as i used to live in the land of the free).
BUT, when you look at answers, you see most of people think about euro or japanese cars. I mean, beyong "looking" Mustang or not, they did not recognized the style as american. None of 'em ever thought my 13' 1LE could be japanese.
I do agree with you however. Mustang enthusiasts and people aware of Mustang history will find plenty of details to fuel their Mustang needs (taillights, ...).
People not aware of Stangs' history (europeans) won't even think it could be american (let's be honest, people buying Fords in Europe don't really realize this is an american brand (it has been around like forever).
So I guess this design will make everyone happy. I do not coz' i'm a die hard US cars fan in a boring europe (on a car's point of view) and I really don't see anything "exotic" in this new Mustang.
I guess where americans would maybe buy a name before a look, europeans will buy a look before a name. However, I'm not sure Europe would still be an interesting market for this kinda "sports" cars.
